Stonecraft Cabernet SauvignonThe Stonecraft Cabernet Sauvignon is a true single site wine. Made from a small vineyard of just 17 rows, 10 of these with canopy lifting wires. Being a late ripening variety it's usually near the last to be picked, and often gets preferetial treatment as the winery workload has eased from its peak. These days this wine is fermented in our small 1 ton open topped fermenters and plunged by hand in the same manner as our Handplunge Shiraz. The results made the extra effort worthwhile.
Current vintage 2009: Colour: Dark red black Nose: Ripe lifted fruit of blackberry, ribena and earthy aromas with some french pencil shavings thrown in for good measure. Palate: subtle entrance but builds rapidly, culminating in flavours of black current and cranberry. Blueberries in the mid palate finish with ripe chewy tanins.
Colour: Dark red black. Nose: Smoky hints of mint overlay asparagus and brambly red fruits. Palate: Chalky tannins early, building, bacon with a blackcurrant mid focused on a fairly tight, chewy structure. |
