CHARDONNAY

01_chardonnay Wilson's first chardonnays in the late 80s were barrel-fermented wines that were necessarily expensive to make. In 1994 the style changed in response to market demands for a lower-priced style with the emphasis on fruit freshness. This was what the sidewalk cafes wanted, and they have since been a major supporter of this wine. The wine is fermented for a few weeks in new oak barriques (in the first few years this was American, but now it is French. The wine is bottled early to retain its freshness.

100% chardonnay

Maturation potential is about 3 or 4 years.

RELEASE INFORMATION

Current Release: 2001 Chardonnay

This is not a chardonnay for those who like to chew on pencils. It has been deliberately made with a light hand on the oak. The nose shows aromas reminiscent of orange-blossom, nectarines, and melons. The palate is dominated by citric flavours, and supported by a rich mouth feel and generous lingering finish.

An excellent wine to match with seafood.
