LEUCOTHEA
A fortified traminer (and to the best knowledge, the only one in the world) that comes with about four years of oak maturation. The name comes from Greek mythology; Leucothea was the "white goddess" who was central to the existence of Dionysus, the god of wine.
Produced in very small quantities and marketed in 375 mL bottles.
Quite sweet; really a dessert wine, with flavours or marmalade and marzipan. Goes well with a ginger pudding.
Maturation potential is not applicable. These wines are bottled with age and do not change in the bottle.
These wines now come with a screw-cap, which may be considered a retrograde step for those who were attracted to the tall bottle with its bees' wax seal. The "up-side" of the screw cap is that the wine holds its condition much better, and is easily resealable.
